Nessie Sightings

For centuries, the Loch Ness monster, known as Nessie, has captivated the imagination of people worldwide. The earliest recorded account of Nessie dates back to approximately 500 AD, when St. Columba allegedly encountered the creature. Furthermore, ancient Pictish carvings depict an unidentified marine animal, which some interpret as early evidence of a Highland monster.

Over the centuries, numerous alleged sightings of Nessie have emerged. In recent years, an average of five to ten sightings are reported annually. Individuals describe Nessie in diverse ways, ranging from hearing faint whispers to capturing blurry photographs. Some even assert that they have successfully captured the creature on camera or even detected its presence underwater.

Following St. Columba’s account, there was a period of relative silence. However, in the 1930s, Nessie experienced a resurgence in popularity, with numerous notable sightings that garnered significant media attention. This phenomenon escalated, leading to an increase in sightings and even the creation of fraudulent photographs, such as the infamous Surgeon’s photograph (above).
