Walking Up Ben Nevis: A Journey to the Roof of the UK
Ben Nevis, at 1,345m (4,413 ft), is the tallest mountain in the UK, located just outside Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. Itβs an iconic destination for walkers, climbers, and adventurers looking to experience the raw beauty of Scotland.
The Ascent
The Mountain Track (or Tourist Route) is the most popular way up. It starts at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, covers around 17km (10.5 miles) round trip, and typically takes 7β9 hours to complete.
Expect a steady climb, zig-zagging stone paths, potential snow at the summit, and rapidly changing weather. Navigation becomes critical in cloud cover β cairns mark the summit where the old weather observatory remains.
